The Psalms is a book of prayers. It covers a wide range of human emotions and can be a catalyst for when you don’t know what to say to God! Join me as I pray through the Psalms. I would love for you to add your prayers and prayer requests in the comments, and I will pray for you right here on the blog.
Psalm 3 (Original text, NIV)
“Oh Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’
But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.
Arise, O Lord! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.”
A prayer inspired by Psalm 3:
Oh, Lord. It breaks my heart. The way we turn against each other. The way that some have turned against me. The hatred that can even grow unfettered in my own heart.
Please forgive me, Lord. Help me not to take things so personally! Father, it doesn’t matter what other people say. All that matters is you. And you know me so deeply. How I love you, Lord.
I am so thankful that you never ignore me. Everything I say is important to you. Thank you for always being near, whenever I call. I need you, Lord. I need you every moment of my life.
Father, you are the only reason I can sleep at night. I praise you for your faithfulness, when I call out in fear from my bed, in the dark. I thank you for your comfort. For your peace, that surpasses our understanding. I thank you that we can have this peace in the face of so many frightening thoughts and circumstances, that seem to haunt us from every angle.
The world is yours, and everything in it. I rely on you. I call on you and ask you to defend me from any evil thing that would rise up against me or my loved ones. You are my hope, Lord. You are my only hope. How I love you.
May you bless us, Lord. May you hear the prayers of your people!
Amen.
